October Blog

Hi All,

With our upcoming repelling trip, I would like to give you all a brief history of repelling! In 1876, a French tour guide created a new way of mountain traveling, called repelling. His name was Jean-Esteril Charlet and he did this on the French Alps. Repelling became popular in the 19th and 20th century, and is still very much used today. The highest anyone has repelled from is 28,840 feet! happy Halloween everyone.

TIPS/ TRICKS For upcoming trip:

  1. Wear long sleeves to prevent scrapes.
  2. Wear proper footwear
  3. Wear leather gloves to protect your hands from rope burns or blisters
  4. Wear sunscreen and bug spray
  5. Be sure to avoid any obstacles going down and be aware of your surroundings.
  6. Double check your systems before repelling
  7. Listen carefully and follow ALL instructions from your instructor
  8. Communicate Clearly: Before you start, announce “on repel” so that your partner below knows you are beginning your decent.
  9. Communicate Completion: Tell your partner that you are “off repel”
  10. Remove any weight un-needed for your decent
